America had seven presidents that were British-born before finally getting one that was a true American

President Van Buren, the 8th US President, was the first US-born president of the United States!
In the early 1600's, colonists started arriving in the "new world", and by the mid 1700's, close to 2.5 million (mostly) British people were living in the Colonies. But undertones of dissension were ringing loudly, primarily around the imposition of taxes and the punitive governmental intervention that the British were imposing on their far off colonies.
Finally, on 4th July 1776, the congress adopted Thomas Jefferson's Declaration of Independence and the United States of America was officially born, with George Washington as the first president.
It would take a further 6 presidents to pass in and out of office before Martin Van Buren would become president and officially assume the role as the first president to be born after the Declaration of Independence.
Thus, in March of 1837, he became the first truly all American president.
