Most of us have had that horrible sensation before, but there is a solution to cease the pain and the symptom itself. Several studies suggest that sleeping on the right side aggravates heartburn, while sleeping on the left tends to calm it.
A hypothesis suggests that by sleeping on the right side or lower esophageal sphincter, whose job is to retain food in the stomach and not allow it to get back to our throat, relaxes and therefore the stomach acid rises and the heartburn begins.
So you might want to ask your Doctor if sleeping on your left side could make you feel better and also make his job easier!
