When journalist Michael Crowley wrote a 3,700 word review tearing apart Crichton's latest book, Crichton decided to strike back.
In his next book, "Next," Crichton named a character Mick Crowley - allegedly after the critic. Having a character named after you should be flattering.
That depends on the character though and Mick Crowley is not one to be admired. In fact, the character is a child rapist in the book.
The fake Mick Crowley and the real Michael Crowley, apart from similar names, are also both Yale graduates and political reporters.
The real Michael Crowley didn't seem too upset though. He said that if Crichton struck back so hostilely, he must have won the battle between them.
