Once upon a little while ago, in a land not that far away, five young girls consented to taking part in a social experiment/art exhibit at the National Art Museum in Kiev, Ukraine. They were to lie on beds while a bunch of museum visitors kissed them on the cheek. If a girl opened her eyes after a kiss, she was contractually obligated to marry the person who kissed her.
All kissers had to present passports (which shows their marital status) and get tested for oral herpes. In the piece, the “sleeping beauty” represented Ukraine as a country. The artist was trying to suggest that the country can make the conscious decision to “open it's eyes” to the political situation of the nation, but any action comes with an element of risk and ultimately. The message may have fallen a bit flat, as no marriages occurred.
