The most famous building in India, and one of the most famous buildings in the world, is slowly sinking!
The Taj Mahal was built in 1631 by Shah Jahan, the emperor of the Mughal Empire. Jahan wanted to create a monument to dedicate to his wife. Looking back, it looks like he did pretty well. Constructed in Agra, Uttar Pradesh in India, it sits along the Yamuna River.
The reason the magnificent structure is sinking is because of the increasingly dry climate of India. So much of the moisture is evaporating from the ground that the structure will be unable to support itself, and eventually collapse.
Engineers are making efforts to save the building, yet it is still a concern that many feel does not get enough attention.
