In Huntingdon, Tennessee, some parents punish their children with mandatory basketball!

The poverty-stricken town of Huntingdon, Tennessee has quite a few youths with behavioral problems and parents that are often unable to handle said problems. But an institution called the Carroll Academy takes care of that.
Carroll Academy is a come-in day school run by the country juvenile court that gathers up the town’s at-risk youth. It employs strict and unusual disciplinary techniques so that kids don’t end up in a place with even stricter and more unusual disciplinary techniques-prison.
One of them is mandatory basketball. Unless a kid has a tear-jerking medical reason not to play, they play. The idea behind this is that it teaches children lessons about perseverance, cooperation, and hard work.
