Lions with black manes are more dominant than others!

Tall, dark and handsome? Apparently that combination also works within the social system of a lion pride. The majority of the time, the female lioness will choose the male with the darker mane, and the other males will avoid a fight with the male who has a darker head of hair.
Apparently, a dark-maned lion’s testosterone levels are higher than the levels in other males. Not only that, but his cubs are more likely to survive, and he is more likely to recover from wounds.
Studies have shown that when lions go through a rough period time in terms of their physical environment, their manes turn lighter, indicating a lack of health. But the opposite occurs during periods of abundant food and nourishment.
