The show Columbo was so popular in Romania, the government feared riots when it got cancelled!

The original US TV show Columbo made a name for itself far beyond the border. In fact, it was so popular in Romania that it was broadcast twice a week.
Then, when it stopped production in the US, some Romanians accused their government of having cancelled the show because of import quotas.
Fearing riots, the Romanian government pleaded that the US State Department have the show’s star, Peter Falk, make a “public service announcement” explaining to the public that the Romanian government had not intentionally cut them off from their beloved TV show.
Falk obligated and taped a TV spot which he read phonetically in Romanian.
