The Home Office is a ministerial department of the Government of the United Kingdom, responsible for immigration, security, and law and order.
As such it is responsible for the police, UK Border Agency, and the Security Service.
It is also in charge of government policy on security-related issues such as drugs, counter-terrorism, and ID cards. It was formerly responsible for the Prison Service and Probation Service, but these have transferred to the Ministry of Justice.
Since 1967 the United Kingdom Home Office only counts a homicide if the murder ends with a conviction making it nearly impossible to compare homicides rates between the UK and other developed countries.
The UK surely knows how to manage things a little bit differently from other countries.
