The University of Colorado Boulder named their cafeteria after a cannibal!

This wasn’t one of those weird coincidences where a place where people eat just happened to be named after someone who eats people, as if that happens often, but rather it was completely on purpose!
The cafeteria is named the Alfred Packer Restaurant & Grill. Alfred Packer, if you haven’t heard of him, is probably Colorado’s most famous cannibal.
During the late 1800’s, with the country in the midst of a gold rush, Packer decided to set out with some friends to find some gold for himself in Colorado. Unfortunately they were hopelessly lost.
After some of the original party split off, they discovered Packer next to a dead man with pieces of his flesh roasting! While he denied the charges and said he found the meat there, he was not believed and was sentenced to 40 years in prison, the longest sentence at the time!
Boulder, for some reason or other, seems to have taken a liking to Packer. Their cafeteria’s slogan? “Have a friend for lunch!”
