There's over 1 billion years of geologic history missing from the Grand Canyon!



The Grand Canyon a steep-sided canyon carved by the Colorado River in the United States in the state of Arizona.
President Theodore Roosevelt was a major proponent of preservation of the Grand Canyon area, and visited it on numerous occasions to hunt and enjoy the scenery. It is considered one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
For thousands of years, the area has been continuously inhabited by Native Americans who built settlements within the canyon and it's many caves. The Pueblo people considered the Grand Canyon a holy site and made pilgrimages to it.
Despite it's many wonders, over 1 billion years of history is missing from the geologic record in the Grand Canyon! So in fact there is a lot still unknown about this wonderful place.
