Latrell Sprewell played for the Golden State Warriors, the New York Knicks, and the Minesota Timberwolves. In 2004, he was offered a 3-year, $21 million contract extension.
Now, it was substantially less than his current contract had paid him and thus offended him a great deal. In a fit of outrage, he publically declared, “I have a family to feed…If Glen Taylor wants to see my family fed, he better cough up some money. Otherwise you’re going to have to see these kinds in one of those Sally Struthers commercials soon.”
He declined the extension and went on to have the worst season in her career in the final year of his contract.
Soon after, his entire life fell apart as he went bankrupt. He had grounded his million dollar yacht, had his two homes foreclosed upon, and was prohibited from seeing his children.
