Two 4-year-olds ran into an old lady on their bikes. The lady died and the girls got sued!

In 2009, 4-year-olds Juliet Breitman and Jacob Kohn were racing their bicycles (complete with training wheels) down their neighborhood streets. Their parents were supervising the childrens' antics. Unfortunately, during the race, the toddlers ran into 87-year-old Claire Menagh. Menagh broke her hip in the accident.
A few months later, Menagh died due to unrelated causes. However, this didn't stop Menagh's family from suing the Breitmans and Kohns for negligence. The parents tried to have the case dismissed because 4-year-olds are too young to be charged with negligence.
Legal precedent said that children under 4 could not be held accountable, but both Jacob and Juliet were 4 years old. The judge, therefore, ruled that they could be held accountable and so could their parents as they had been supervising.
